Chapter 44 The Young Are Teachable

d, "Since you are escorting Empress Dowager back to the palace, you must take good care of her. Be careful not to slip on the steps or else Emperor might not forgive you if anything happened to Empres...Chapter 44: A Child Can Be Taught

The Filial Prince Wang felt somewhat relieved after getting Yun Qianyue and Rong Feng's agreement. He noticed that Yun Qianyue was giving Leng Shaozhu a friendly smile, although he thought it wasn't too good for Leng Shaozhu to stay in the Yun王府 and be too close to Yun Qianyue.

The Cloud King didn't expect Leng Shaozhu to insist on staying in the Yun王府 for recuperation. He originally intended to persuade him to leave, but seeing that Yun Qianyue had agreed, he could only remain silent. After all, Leng Shaozhu hadn’t mentioned that he was injured while shielding Yun Qianyue from a sword. If this were known by the Filial Prince Wang, it might cause some trouble.

Both princes, despite their own intentions, agreed to enter the palace together and request the Emperor to thoroughly investigate the matter. With such chaos occurring in broad daylight within the capital city, it was truly unsettling.

The room only quieted down after both princes left.

Yun Qianyue looked at Rong Feng with raised eyebrows, “You're also staying in the Yun王府”

"Yes! Before Prince Shi returns, I need to protect you," Rong Feng nodded.

"He doesn't know when he'll be able to return." Yun Qianyue's face fell as she thought about how long it would take to rebuild Hu Gou County at least ten days or so. There were other states and counties as well, though not as serious. She simply had no idea when he would come back.

"Regardless of when he returns, you need to focus on recuperating," Rong Feng said, "Do you want him to see your sickly appearance upon his return"

Yun Qianyue glanced at Rong Feng askance, "When did you become Rong Jing’s nanny looking over me"

Rong Feng rubbed his forehead and turned around as he handed the prescription to Ling Lian and Yi Xue who had entered. They immediately left with the prescriptions. He sighed and told Yun Qianyue, “I received a letter from him on the day you returned from Hu Gou County.”

Yun Qianyue chuckled, "You’ll be busy in the future!"

Rong Feng’s mouth curved up, "As long as you take your medicine regularly and on time, I won't have to work too hard."

"Alright!" Yun Qianyue's face fell. Thinking about having to drink bitter medicine for a month made her unhappy. She turned around and saw Leng Shaozhu lying still in the bed, unable to move. Luckily he had shielded her with his body from the sword; otherwise she would be the one on that bed now. In her current state of health, if injured by a sword, she would surely have fainted. She looked away and told Rong Feng, "Don't tell Rong Jing about my injury."

Rong Feng shook his head, “You must inform him daily of everything you do. Even if I don’t tell him, someone else will; it can’t be hidden.”

"He controls me even when he’s a thousand miles away," Yun Qianyue muttered.

Rong Feng smiled but didn't say anything more, sitting down to slowly sip his tea.

Yun Qianyue also remained silent and closed her eyes, feeling very tired.

Leng Shaozhu lay in bed watching Yun Qianyue then looking at Rong Feng with a shadow of sorrow in his eyes.

A half an hour later, Ling Lian and Yi Xue came in carrying medicine. Ling Lian carried the bowl to Leng Shaozhu’s bedside while Yi Xue brought it to Yun Qianyue; immediately, the room was filled with a strong smell of medicine.

Yun Qianyue pinched her nose and told Rong Feng without opening her eyes, "This medicine smells bitter."

"Medicine tastes bitter but is beneficial!" Rong Feng replied.

Yun Qianyue opened her eyes and took the bowl. Seeing Leng Shaozhu frown at Ling Lian’s medicine bowl, she felt it wasn’t so bitter anymore. She told Yi Xue to fetch two plates of sweet fruits for them both to eat after finishing their medicine.

Yi Xue nodded and left.

Pinching her nose, Yun Qianyue drank the entire bowl in one go.

Leng Shaozhu couldn’t sit up to take his medicine himself; he had Ling Lian feed him. Hearing Yun Qianyue’s instructions, he didn't think it was as bitter and took small sips, though frowning with his brows knitted but showing no signs of disgust.

After finishing the bowl of medicine, Yi Xue came back with a plate of sweet fruits for both Yun Qianyue and Leng Shaozhu.

Leng Shaozhu was injured in his chest, so he could still eat candied fruit with his hands. He actually disliked sweet snacks the most; previously when taking medicine, there would be a crowd of people attending to him and trying various methods to make him take it. But now because of Yun Qianyue's words about starting bitter before ending sweet, he found the candied fruit not so unbearable and ate it happily. After finishing the candied fruit, Yun Qianyue wiped her hands with a handkerchief and instructed Ling Lian: "Tell someone to go to the Palace of Filial Piety once and bring back some clothes for the young prince of the Cold family and items he uses in daily life. Also ask two people who attend to him to come along."

Ling Lian was relieved; she wasn’t originally a maid, let alone attending to Leng Shaozhu, so she immediately responded and left. Yi Xue followed her out.

Yun Qianyue stood up and told Leng Shaozhu: "Rest well! I’ve arranged two people here who will attend to you if anything happens. When your servants arrive, tell them whatever you need; they’ll help you with it. Don’t be polite."

Leng Shaozhu nodded.

Yun Qianyue waved for Rong Feng, "Let's go!"

Rong Feng stood up and walked out of the courtyard with Yun Qianyue.

The moment they reached the door, Leng Shaozhu suddenly called out to Yun Qianyue. Yun Qianyue turned around and he said softly: "I can’t move either… Can you come over daily to talk to me"

"Sure! I’ll come over every day and talk with you." Yun Qianyue agreed readily.

Leng Shaozhu immediately smiled like a child, nodding his head satisfactorily.

Yun Qianyue shook her head smilingly; if it weren’t for the fact that she couldn’t sense any unfamiliar aura from Leng Shaozhu, she would’ve thought he had been replaced by someone else. His transformation was too drastic, and he still felt somewhat dazed till now.

The two of them left the courtyard. Rong Feng looked back and whispered: "Although the young prince of the Cold family has improved greatly, it’s not a good idea to be too close with him. He seems to…"

"Are you saying he's got feelings for me" Yun Qianyue asked smilingly.

Rong Feng nodded his head, "You’re so smart that you must have noticed it already. Will there be problems if we indulge him"

“I don’t know why Leng Shaozhu suddenly changed towards me like this; maybe after all these years of fighting and killing, the only thing he remembers vividly is me because I was with him when he stepped into hell. So now that he’s awake, he treats me differently as a result. Actually, Leng Shaozhu isn’t stupid but since he grew up being spoiled by Prince Filial Piety in a honey pot, hearing nothing but good words and flattery all the time, suddenly realizing things may not be bad either. Don’t worry; he’s clear about my relationship with Rong Jing and also knows his own worth.” Yun Qianyue said.

Rong Feng nodded his head but still had some worries on his face.

"Rong Feng, I know you’re afraid Prince Jing will be unhappy or that Leng Shaozhu’s feelings towards me might affect the current situation. But I don’t think there is any need to worry about it. We can’t refuse someone's heart when they want to reform themselves and start anew, because only then can he truly live. He living means fewer people will suffer in this capital city of Heavenly Saint Kingdom; perhaps he’ll even save others just like he did me today. I wouldn’t have wasted my Great Rebirth Pill for nothing." Yun Qianyue stopped walking and looked into Rong Feng’s eyes seriously, "I don’t think his feelings towards me are a problem because I can gradually help him get rid of those thoughts instead of rejecting his desire to reform himself and turning him back onto the wrong path. So I’m not refusing to be friends with Leng Shaozhu like this; we shouldn’t look at someone’s past but rather their future."

Rong Feng nodded, the worry on his face fading as he smiled: "You’re right; I was being narrow-minded!"

Yun Qianyue laughed and plucked a maple leaf from the tree beside her, gently running her fingertips over its veins. She said again, “The weather is changing soon! Now this world is like a game of chess, and we are in the middle of it here in the capital city; there will be arrows both visible and hidden, plots and schemes, mind games and competition… everyone is a pawn, so who’s to say that Leng Shaozhu can’t shine We must always have unexpected attitudes towards people, waiting for them to surprise us.”

Rong Feng touched Yun Qianyue's head lightly and chuckled, "Moonie, you’re full of profound words! Why do you never win against the Prince Jing Why are you always bullied by him"

Yun Qianyue snorted, “One thing restrains another.”

Rong Feng nodded with a smile. "It seems that’s true!"

Yun Qianyue looked at him smilingly and continued walking forward. After taking two steps, she said to him: "Live in Moonie Tower with me! The room beside mine was where Ye Qingran stayed for some days last time."

"Okay!" Rong Feng nodded.

The two of them didn’t speak any further and returned to Moonie Tower.

Back in the room, Yun Qianyue kicked off her shoes and lay down to sleep again.

The next day, despite still feeling listless, Yun Qianyue forced herself up because she was concerned about the empress in the palace. Rong Feng had just returned from morning court when he saw Yun Qianyue getting ready to leave; he said that he had requested permission from His Majesty and would be allowed to enter the palace daily to take the pulse of the empress, who had agreed. After returning from the imperial study, Rong Feng went straight to Prosperity Palace where the empress was in good condition and knew about her attempted assassination yesterday; she told him not to come to the palace for a few days. Hearing that, Yun Qianyue felt relieved and returned to her room.

Rong Feng also mentioned that Prince Filial Piety and Cloud King had entered the palace yesterday to request an investigation from His Majesty. The emperor had already given Ye Qingran’s team the task of investigating their attempted assassination. With Night Light Guarding firmly protecting the capital city, outsiders found it hard to enter; this suggested that those behind the assassination were within the city itself. As a result, all households were being thoroughly searched, including those of the victims: Prince Filial Piety's and Cloud King’s palaces.

The Prince of Filial Piety actually understood that Cold Shaozhu had been implicated by Yun Qianyue, but since his son was the one who got hurt, he naturally wouldn’t let it go so easily. He also sent people to secretly investigate.

Upon hearing this news, Yun Qianyue thought that even if they couldn't find anything out, all of the mansions in the capital would be thoroughly searched. With so many eyes watching the person behind everything, he was likely to calm down for a couple of days.

Rong Feng was now serving in the government and naturally wouldn’t be able to accompany Yun Qianyue. After breakfast, he headed back to the Ministry of War.

Yun Qianyue started sleeping since she returned from Cold Shaozhu’s temporary residence yesterday morning. Apart from waking up for meals and medicine in between, she slept all day and night. She was still drowsy when she woke up now. The more she slept, the sleepier she seemed to get; as soon as her body touched something, she didn’t want to move anymore. However, she felt that it was time to stop sleeping. Remembering the promise she made to Cold Shaozhu to go talk with him, she went over to his temporary residence.

Cold Shaozhu was lying on a bed in boredom and looking outside from time to time. Of course he wouldn’t send someone to invite Yun Qianyue; all he could do was wait for her. When she came over, he had an expression of joy on his face.

Yun Qianyue entered the room and saw two maidservants in Prince of Filial Piety’s clothing standing beside Cold Shaozhu's bed, serving tea and water carefully and meticulously for him. She smiled at Cold Shaozhu and teased, "These two aren’t your concubines by any chance"

Cold Shaozhu turned red and immediately shook his head, “No!”

The two maidservants also blushed and followed him in shaking their heads.

"It doesn't matter even if they are! If you find it boring, feel free to call over a couple of your concubines to serve you." Yun Qianyue slumped lazily on the soft couch as soon as she entered the room and said with a smile.

“I don’t have any concubines in my courtyard anymore. There are also no indoor concubines.” Cold Shaozhu’s tone was somewhat solemn.

Yun Qianyue was taken aback; she remembered that the Prince of Filial Piety had numerous beauties, where did they all go

"Don't believe me Ask them," Cold Shaozhu pointed at his two maidservants.

“Miss Qianyue, our young lord expelled all the beauties from the mansion after recovering from a severe illness! Apart from us two personal attendants, there are no women in the courtyard.” The two women immediately replied.

Yun Qianyue blinked and looked at Cold Shaozhu oddly. "Cold Shaozhu, are you giving up on sex Are you planning to become a monk"

Cold Shaozhu turned red then pale; alternating between the two for a while, he suddenly lowered his head and said softly, “In my past life, I was promiscuous and worse than pigs or dogs. Now that I wish to reform myself, those women were all forcefully brought back by me, so I think it’s better for them to leave. I gave each of them an enormous sum as a living expense; they should have no problems regarding food and clothing in the future. This is to make up for my nonsense from before.”

“So your enlightenment has reached such a level! Well done!” Yun Qianyue widened her eyes and complimented him.

"Really You think I did the right thing" Cold Shaozhu lifted his head, with his eyes sparkling.

Yun Qianyue nodded seriously. "You realized your mistakes from before, and you returned their happiness to them; that was very good of you. In the future, find a woman who loves you as well. Wouldn’t it be better than a bunch of people pretending to be friendly in front of you but acting otherwise behind your back"

Cold Shaozhu nodded upon hearing her.

The two maidservants filled Yun Qianyue’s cup with tea and left quietly.

“Cold Shaozhu, can you tell stories Tell me one.” When the two maidservants walked out, she asked him.

"I can narrate a few." Cold Shaozhu nodded hesitantly. "But they are just lowbrow anecdotes; I invited people to come into my mansion and entertain me when I was bored. You… Do you want to listen"

“Yes, tell me!” Yun Qianyue thought that among the young lords in the capital, Cold Shaozhu was the most fun-loving.

Cold Shaozhu saw that she wanted to hear him tell a story and began. The so-called lowbrow anecdotes were naturally dirty jokes. But when he told Yun Qianyue these stories, he inevitably felt uneasy; therefore, he picked out only semi-dirty ones, also omitting the dirtier parts of them. So what Yun Qianyue heard wasn’t actually a dirty story but just a plain tale.

He continued telling several such tales, and finally, Yun Qianyue couldn't take it anymore. She glared at him, “Cold Shaozhu, what kind of stories are these I’ve read the ten most explicit books; why am I scared of your few dirty jokes You’re acting like a girl! We both know each other well enough, don’t we Even if you wish to reform yourself now, there’s no need to ruin art this way.”

Cold Shaozhu was stunned when he saw Yun Qianyue glaring at him and asked in confusion, "What is art"

Yun Qianyue fell silent for a moment but then explained the concept of art to him. She also told him that she felt everything unique on this planet could be considered an art form. So what if they were dirty jokes Their value was in finding joy from them; by removing their value, how would people enjoy listening to them

Cold Shaozhu was stunned by Yun Qianyue's tiger, and there was no sound for a long time.

Yun Qianyue rolled her eyes at the ceiling as she looked up. Who would have thought that Cold Shaozhu could one day become like this

"I get it now! Alright, I'll tell you all the jokes." After a moment of silence, Cold Shaozhu finally seemed to understand and smiled apologetically at Yun Qianyue.

Yun Qianyue nodded. "You are teachable!"

This time, Cold Shaozhu recounted the original jokes word for word as they were told. Yun Qianyue listened with great interest and even burst into laughter at some particularly funny parts. Before, he hadn't found such jokes all that amusing; having played them so many times, he had become numb to their humor. Now, recounting them himself and listening to Yun Qianyue's reaction, he found them genuinely entertaining. Thus, sometimes he laughed along with her but did not dare laugh too heartily for fear of reopening his chest wound, causing him to turn red at the face instead. All Yun Qianyue could do was look sympathetically at him, secretly rejoicing that it had been a good thing that he had blocked the sword for her.

At noon, Yun Qianyue took her meal in Cold Shaozhu's room. In the afternoon, she feared his throat would suffer if he continued telling lewd jokes and instead engaged him in casual conversation now and then. They spoke of amusing incidents from their childhoods or stories happening outside.

For the first time, Yun Qianyue felt that over the years, she had been misled by Cold Shaozhu's bully image. In reality, he knew many things. However, thinking about it, she found it unsurprising; Prince Xingqin was as cunning as a fox and would not stint on education for his son no matter how much he loved him. It was just that she had always seen only the fighting side of Cold Shaozhu when they met.

Cold Shaozhu, too, was no longer as formal as he had been the day before and spoke naturally with Yun Qianyue.

Just as they were talking, Ye Qingran entered the courtyard. Hearing his footsteps, Yun Qianyue glanced out of the window, while Cold Shaozhu, who did not hear Ye Qingran's light steps, continued speaking until he finally stopped when Ye Qingran reached the door.

Ye Qingran stepped into the room and gave Cold Shaozhu a quick glance before raising an eyebrow at Yun Qianyue. "Little girl, when did you get another knight in shining armor"

"Yesterday," Yun Qianyue rolled her eyes.

Ye Qingran chuckled as he strode to the side of Cold Shaozhu's bed and sized him up from head to toe. Suddenly, he slapped Cold Shaozhu on the shoulder, saying, "Keep doing acts like this in the future!"

Cold Shaozhu hissed, clearly pained by Ye Qingran’s strong hand.

"Ye Qingran! Be gentle, you don't see he's injured" Yun Qianyue immediately protested.

Ye Qingran retracted his hand and looked at Cold Shaozhu’s pale face. "This little prince has always despised your looks, but since I share the title of ‘young prince’ with you, now that you have done something worthy, I'll start taking you seriously if you continue to do good deeds."

Cold Shaozhu remained silent.

Ye Qingran turned and sat beside Yun Qianyue. When she didn't move, he squeezed her body. "Make some room for me."

Yun Qianyue reluctantly moved a little and asked, "Why are you here"

"I came to see you, no, I should say the knight in shining armor," Ye Qingran said. "Yesterday when you were attacked, I was at the city gate and only learned about it later. After chasing after those who tried to kill you, I didn’t come over."

Yun Qianyue asked without much hope. "Did you find them"

Ye Qingran snorted. "Although we haven't caught anyone, when this little prince took charge of East, West, South, North, and City, if I didn’t know about someone secretly causing trouble in such a small place, it would be a waste."

"So you have some clues" Yun Qianyue blinked.

Ye Qingran leaned against her body. "It’s not a god or ghost that’s involved; there must be traces left behind. Besides, I've been watching the capital for quite some time now and will understand more as time goes on." He then put his head on Yun Qianyue's shoulder without any hesitation. "Little girl, you can rest assured! The fox tail of those who are scheming against you won’t be hidden for long!"

Yun Qianyue nodded. She was too lazy to inquire further and reached out to push Ye Qingran away. When she couldn't move him, she said irritably, "Leaning on an injured person—how can you do that"

"Are you sick" asked Ye Qingran with raised eyebrows.

Yun Qianyue huffed. "I protected my aunt’s pregnancy and nearly lost half of my own life."

"So what if I temporarily lost some martial arts It’ll be recovered soon; it's no big deal. You’re not made out of paper or clay, so lend me a moment to rest; I didn't sleep last night." Ye Qingran yawned and truly closed his eyes.

Yun Qianyue remained silent, even if he wasn't made of paper or clay, wouldn't a man at least be considerate towards a woman

Nie Qingran closed his eyes and soon began to snore evenly, falling asleep.

Yun Qianyue tried pushing him awake but was unable to move him. Using her Inner Strength felt like a waste of the bitter medicine she had drunk all day, so she could only stare at him helplessly. Seeing the heavy shadow under his eyes, she thought it over and decided to let him rest against her as a pillow for now.

Leng Shaozhuo looked at Nie Qingran; his face had recovered slightly from being hit earlier. He spoke to Yun Qianyue, "When I was young, no matter how hard I tried, I could never beat you and thus wanted to learn martial arts. However, my father feared that it would be too arduous for me and refused to find a teacher for me. Later, I secretly found someone to teach me, but later on realized the hardship of learning martial arts and stopped."

Yun Qianyue smiled, "Learning martial arts has its benefits, but not learning it doesn't mean one will achieve nothing. Sometimes it's about using your mind rather than just relying on physical strength. Not having any martial skills isn't a big deal."

The dark color faded from Leng Shaozhuo's face as he nodded.

Before Yun Qianyue could say more, a bird suddenly flew in through the open window—it was Qingti. After flying inside, it first sized up Leng Shaozhuo and then glanced at Nie Qingran leaning against Yun Qianyue's shoulder before finally perching on her shoulder, stretching its beak toward Nie Qingran.

Yun Qianyue twitched at the corner of her mouth—Rong Jing even raised a bird that was so protective and domineering.

Nie Qingran's head was pecked painfully, but without opening his eyes, he waved his hand to push away Qingti.

Qingti nimbly dodged; seeing Nie Qingran still leaning against Yun Qianyue's shoulder, it flew back and pecked him on the head again, this time with much more force. The pain made Nie Qingran gasp awake, sitting up abruptly to turn around and see Qingti. He immediately became furious, "You damn bird! How dare you peck at your little king Don't you want to live anymore"

Qingti landed in Yun Qianyue's palm, tilting its small neck upward to stare at Nie Qingran with round black eyes, looking like it was saying, "I pecked you and what can you do about it" It seemed rather proud.

Nie Qingran, who had been half-asleep, now woke up more fully, squinting his eyes and reaching out to grab it.

Qingti stood on Yun Qianyue's palm without moving, no longer dodging.

Right as Nie Qingran's hand was about to fiercely grab at the bird, Yun Qianyue laughed and stopped him, "You have the nerve to sleep against me knowing I can't push you away, but Qingti has every right to peck you!"

"Little girl! It's just a broken bird from some weak beauty; why do you protect it so much" Nie Qingran glared at Yun Qianyue and glanced at the note tied to the bird’s leg, snorting.

Yun Qianyue raised an eyebrow but didn't speak. Eagerly reaching out, she pulled off the note and opened it. It read in Chinese phonetic script: "Send me ten pages of letters daily through Rong Feng."

This one sentence made Yun Qianyue twitch at her lips—did Rong Jing know how idle she was

"Little girl, what kind of gibberish is this" Nie Qingran leaned in to look but couldn't make sense of it. He asked perplexedly.

“This isn’t gibberish; you don’t need to understand.” Yun Qianyue pulled out a note card and feather pen from her sleeves, quickly wrote the word "good" on it, attached it to Qingti's leg, patted its head, and it seemed to give Nie Qingran a warning glance before flapping its wings and flying out the window.

"Indeed, what kind of person raises such a bird!" Nie Qingran snorted and turned his head, attempting to lie down again.

This time Yun Qianyue nimbly moved away from him, grabbing a pillow and shoving it under his head. Although Nie Qingran was displeased, he didn't say anything but closed his eyes once more.

Yun Qianyue stood up and walked to the desk where she began grinding ink and writing a letter to Rong Jing.

Nie Qingran opened his eyes to glance at Yun Qianyue, pursed his lips, then closed them again. Given his intelligence, he naturally knew that Yun Qianyue was writing a letter to Rong Jing; he wondered what merit the weak beauty had and why he had treated her that way before… He snorted again.

"Nie Qingran, are your teeth hurting" Yun Qianyue looked up at Nie Qingran.

“No!” Nie Qingran replied irritably.

Yun Qianyue paid him no further attention and continued writing.

The room fell silent. Leng Shaozhuo lay on the bed watching Yun Qianyue; though she wasn’t smiling, her entire demeanor seemed warm and gentle. Her lips curved slightly, a smile without a laugh. This was a side of Yun Qianyue he had never seen before. Even when dealing with Rong Feng or Nie Qingran these past two days, she hadn't shown such an expression. He used to fear Rong Jing more than respect him, but at this moment, he suddenly felt that being able to make the woman who could be extravagant, domineering, aloof, indifferent, lazy, simple, and complex show such a gentle and tender look was something worth respecting even more. The longer he knew Yun Qianyue, the more he realized how difficult it was for her to display this kind of expression on her face.

Only one person could make her look like this, and that was Rong Jing. Thinking of this, his heart did not feel cold but rather more spacious. He had been tired from telling Yu Qianyue so many jokes in the morning, so he closed his eyes and soon fell asleep.

Yu Qianyue continued to write for an hour before she finished ten sheets of paper. When she looked over it again, she realized that eight pages were filled with the dirty jokes Cold Shaozhuo told her. She shook her head in amusement.

At this moment, Rong Feng walked in from outside and was not surprised to see Ye Qingran; he went directly to the table and raised an eyebrow at the pile of papers on Yu Qianyue’s desk with writing all over them.

"Daily tasks! Hand these over to him." Yu Qianyue said.

Rong Feng understood, reached out to grab the papers but paused when he saw what was written. He looked strangely at Yu Qianyue and asked, "You’re going to give him this"

"Why not These are all old jokes that have never been told before. Only someone like Cold Shaozhuo who used to enjoy invading others’ privacy would come up with them. The storytellers nowadays probably wouldn’t even know how to tell them anymore. I’m giving these to him so he can laugh a little bit. He might get too exhausted from managing the flood." Yu Qianyue said, her reasons quite reasonable.

"Even if that’s what you say, don’t you think it’s inappropriate" Rong Feng asked.

"No! I think it’s very appropriate!" Yu Qianyue waved her hand dismissively.

"Then… okay." Rong Feng looked at the letter again and then folded it up helplessly.

Yu Qianyue turned around to see Cold Shaozhuo and Ye Qingran both sound asleep. She stood up, stretched her arms, and walked towards the door. Rong Feng glanced at them before following her out of the room.

Once they got outside, Rong Feng said quietly, "A palace maid died last night."

"Who doesn’t die in the palace It’s not normal if no one dies!" Yu Qianyue replied.

"It was a servant of Princess Ming Fei. A personal attendant." Rong Feng added.

Yu Qianyue paused and then laughed, "How impatient! I thought she had some talent!"

Rong Feng did not comment on that.

"Did you find out about Princess Ming Fei’s background" Yu Qianyue asked, turning her head. She knew that Rong Feng was investigating the matter of Wenhuchou Manor’s massacre in secret. Therefore, finding out about Princess Ming Fei would be his top priority.

"No!" Rong Feng shook his head and looked at Yu Qianyue, saying, "She is just like the previous Concubine Yun; her origins are mysterious. She probably isn’t even a commoner woman and behind all this, there’s likely someone else."

Yu Qianyue narrowed her eyes slightly before nodding, “No rush! Since she can’t keep it together now, we’ll soon see what she has up her sleeve!”

Rong Feng nodded but said no more.

The two returned to the Moonlit Jade Pavilion and were met by Ling Lian and Yi Xue. The former whispered to Yu Qianyue, "Young Miss, Senior Sister Huasheng has brought back Prince Rui from Southern Liang!"

Yu Qianyue was overjoyed, “He’s back Perfect! Where are they now”

"At the Smoke Willow Building! The eyes and ears of Yun王府are everywhere. They didn’t dare come to you out of fear of exposing their identities." Ling Lian said when she saw Yu Qianyue nod her head in agreement, adding hesitantly, "But there’s not-so-good news."

"What kind of news" Yu Qianyue raised an eyebrow.

Ling Lian lowered her voice and said, "The ten great families have joined forces to enter the world. The main reason is that they want to condemn Southern Liang for Prince Rui’s indecent behavior towards Lady Lan Yi from the Blue family."
