Yun Qianyue was taken aback; the old Taoist is Rong Jing's master
Venerable Ciyun and several other elders from the temple were also shocked, staring at Rong Jing in disbelief.
Ye Tianyi was equally stunned but quickly regained his composure. His thin lips pursed tightly as he remained silent.
Yun Qianyue recalled that she had just been thinking about how the old Taoist's first glance at her was unusual, and then later in the house, he subtly showed mercy to her without revealing it. Then after asking her to kill Rong Jing, she thought either there was a connection with her or with Rong Jing. She never imagined that the old Taoist would be Rong Jing’s master. She looked at Rong Jing who was not looking at him but staring intently at the old Taoist in the house. She also shifted her gaze and looked inside.
"Who is your master Don't go around calling anyone your master!" The old Taoist suddenly frowned and shouted at Rong Jing from within the room.
Yun Qianyue was startled again, while Venerable Ciyun and others were equally stunned. Ye Tianyi's face remained expressionless at this moment.
"Once a master, always a master." Rong Jing calmly said one sentence.
"What rubbish! Once a master, always a master!" The old Taoist snorted unhappily as he glared at Rong Jing and warned him: "Rascal boy, don’t just shout out 'master'. I never took you in, nor did I go through the formalities of拜師 (becoming an apprentice). I only taught you a few moves. That was more than ten years ago when I had a hand slip-up. I wouldn't admit to having such a disciple."
"It doesn’t matter if Master denies it; even teaching a few moves creates a bond between master and disciple." Rong Jing lightly brushed off the dust that hadn’t touched his water sleeves, calmly stepping into the door.
"There's no bond at all! Don't try to get close to me. I won't buy your act!" The old Taoist glared at Rong Jing, "If you dare to forcibly separate me from this bald monk for a match when you come in here, I will not hold back either. Don’t think that you have an advantage over the boy outside. If you don’t want big footprints on your white clothes, get out of here quickly!"
"If it’s really true that Master can help her recover her memories, forcibly separating both of you for a match might be worth trying." Rong Jing seemed not to see the old Taoist's stern face as he walked towards him unhurriedly.
"You dare to boast so brazenly You must have some skill!" The old Taoist looked sideways at Rong Jing with a sneer.
"Even though I've been bedridden for these years, my practice of martial arts hasn’t stopped. Otherwise wouldn't that be embarrassing Master" Rong Jing came to within three feet of the old Taoist and stopped walking, looking at him calmly and slowly said: "Master has remained as you were in my childhood years. Your demeanor is still as graceful as ever, your martial art skills even more profound; it seems Master’s life these past decades has been very good."
"Whether I’ve had a good life or not has nothing to do with you! Don’t call me 'master'!" The old Taoist looked at Rong Jing angrily and said coldly: "Rascal boy, let me see your ability. If you can separate us by force, then I will remove the Phoenix Tribulation from that little girl outside for her. But here’s a warning first; each of us has two cycles of sixty years in martial arts strength. Together we are incredibly powerful. Not boasting, but even this Dharma Hall wouldn’t stand up to our combined might." Finished speaking, he looked at Master Pushan, "Bald monk, you say if not"
"Young Prince Rong Jing, the old fool isn't wrong! That's absolutely true!" Venerable Pushan nodded looking at Rong Jing.
"So weigh carefully whether you have the strength to forcibly separate us. You're just a few years in age; don’t get hurt so badly that not even your soul remains." The old Taoist warned Rong Jing with a serious look, "If you know what's good for you, leave immediately and stop being an eyesore here. If I knew you would grow up to be this slow-witted, there’s no way I’d have taught you a few moves back then; that has been my biggest regret in life! Even more than when you stole my wife from me!"
"Old fool, what nonsense are you talking Who did you steal your wife from" Venerable Pushan was furious.
"How didn’t I steal her If I hadn’t stolen her, how would I not have a wife" The old Taoist also became angry.
"That’s because you were unpopular. None of the girls looked at you properly." Venerable Pushan snorted coldly, "What do you blame me for"
"In my prime, I was handsome and dignified. If not for your following me everywhere back then, everyone would have thought we were lovers. How could the girls look at me properly" The old Taoist also snorted coldly.
"Who asked you to make such good wine" Venerable Pushan’s face turned red, a rare thing, "How can this be my fault Later I stopped following you and started drinking the wine made by Madam Wine. Why did you start chasing me instead"
"Wasn’t it because I liked Madam Wine" The old Taoist stared at him.
Venerable Pushan was taken aback, "You like Madam Wine, so why not just say that I didn't interfere with you either; why blame me
"If you hadn't been a nuisance, how could Wine Maiden have married a poor scholar" The Taoist mentioned the past with lingering anger.
"How did I become a nuisance Isn't it just about drinking wine Didn't you also say that Wine Maiden's brew was better than yours and that you followed me there every day to drink" Master Pushan recalled the past with a nostalgic expression. "Unfortunately, after she left, no matter how good her descendants' brewing is, it doesn’t taste like hers anymore. Yet, having more is still better; this monk is content."
"Are you satisfied Who will give back my wife to me then Wine Maiden originally had feelings for me, all because of the rumors about us being intimate... I explained countless times but no one believed me! You bald monk, truly hateful!" The Taoist's white beard was twitching furiously, revealing how agitated and angry he was.
"Later on, didn’t I enter a monastery for your sake Why haven't you found yourself a wife yet How can you blame me" Master Pushan also became enraged. "I don’t care much about women or being a monk except for my love of wine. If it weren't to protect your reputation, where wouldn’t I be able to till the land and drink wine Why would I run away to become a monk just to sneakily drink"
"You still say this! Hadn’t you entered a monastery, everything could’ve been better!
Yun Qianyue's voice suddenly stopped, and her body froze in place. She could not move at all. Her heart sank as she saw Rong Jing no longer looking at her. With a light flick of his sleeve, her body floated out the door and past Ye Tianyi, landing lightly beside Master Ci Yun. He then said calmly, "Master Ci Yun, would you mind watching over her for me"
Murderous intent flashed across Master Ci Yun's face as he hurriedly said, "Prince Jing, this is no small matter! You can't be joking with your life!"
"I am not joking. Please help me watch over her, Master!" Rong Jing did not look outside.
Mistaken for a disciple of the Taoist priest, Master Ci Yun glanced at Ye Tianyi and saw him looking emotionlessly into the meditation room. He then turned to look at Yun Qianyue, whose face was extremely grim, her eyes fixed on the figure in the meditation room. He realized that even if he entered the room, it would not bring Prince Jing back. With a sigh of helplessness, he nodded his head. "Alright! Prince Jing, please rest assured. I will make sure to watch over Miss Qianyue."
"Thank you, Master!" Rong Jing spoke briefly and suddenly struck the joined hands of Venerable Pushe and the Taoist priest.
Yun Qianyue opened her mouth to cry out but no sound came out. She tried clenching her fists but from her arm to her palms, she was completely stiff as if her blood had frozen. She could not move at all. All she could do was widen her eyes and stare into the meditation room, her gaze fixed on that white figure inside. At this moment, whether it was anger, annoyance, or frustration, any emotion seemed pale in comparison.
"Indeed he has some skills! He hasn't brought shame upon me!" The Taoist priest snorted as he kicked at Rong Jing.
Rong Jing ignored the Taoist priest's kick. As if not seeing the foot coming towards him, he gathered his inner strength and infused it into both palms, sending a powerful stream of qi straight toward the joined hands of Venerable Pushe and the Taoist priest.
"You damned old Taoist! He is your disciple, yet you are willing to hurt him" Venerable Pushe didn't care whether he would kick over the chessboard again. He kicked out to block the Taoist priest's foot aimed at Rong Jing.
"You bald monk, seeing how protective you are of him makes it seem like he is your disciple rather than mine!" The Taoist priest failed to land a blow on Rong Jing but instead hit Venerable Pushe's blocking foot.
The table couldn't withstand their movements and the chessboard was knocked over, scattering pieces everywhere.
"I am Prince Jing’s benefactor. You damned old Taoist! With such a disciple, you are truly ungrateful for your blessings!" Venerable Pushe endured the kick but wasn’t one to take a loss lying down. He swiftly kicked back at the Taoist priest.
"I don’t have such a disciple! He can be my disciple in his next life!" The Taoist priest snorted coldly as he saw Rong Jing's palm wind aimed at him and Venerable Pushe’s joined hands. He used his inner strength to pull Venerable Pushe up into the air, narrowly avoiding Rong Jing's palm wind.
"You damned old Taoist! Look in the mirror and see what kind of character you have before calling yourself someone else’s master!" Venerable Pushe cursed as he was lifted by the Taoist priest's inner strength.
Although their bodies were apart, their hands were still stuck together while their feet exchanged blows.
Rong Jing’s palm missed its target and looking at them with a flash in his eyes, he suddenly turned his wrist. His inner strength receded as his sleeve gently swept across the ground, causing all the scattered chess pieces to be sucked into it before launching back towards Venerable Pushe and the Taoist priest in an explosion of flower petals. Unlike Ye Tianyi and Yun Qianyue who only attacked the Taoist priest, Rong Jing’s attack included Venerable Pushe as well, aiming at various acupoints around their bodies, each piece imbued with his inner strength.
"Well done!" The Taoist priest exclaimed.
"Excellent move!" Venerable Pushe praised.
Their bodies swapped positions in the brief moment before the chess pieces enveloped them. They emitted true qi from their entire body, forming a protective circle that repelled the incoming chess pieces. The pieces, infused with their powerful true qi, now redirected towards Rong Jing’s acupoints.
With three powerful streams of true qi converging in the room, it shuddered as roof tiles slid off under the weight, creating a cacophony of sounds that echoed through the back courtyard of the Bodhidharma Hall.
Yun Qianyue’s heart raced as she stared at Rong Jing intently.
As the chess pieces approached within three inches of him, Rong Jing suddenly released a powerful burst of true qi, forming an aura around himself. The pieces could no longer advance and formed two rings of black and white light surrounding his body. The contrasting colors enclosed him as if he wore hula hoops around his waist in a moon-white robe, with green mist clearly visible swirling around him.
"So you have fully mastered it! You little brat, your luck is not bad at all!" The Taoist priest looked approvingly at Rong Jing through his old eyes.
"Prince Jing’s innate talent is unparalleled! You damned old Taoist, what good karma did you accumulate to be called a master" Venerable Pushe praised as well. This absorption of their inner strength and its immediate use was something only the last level of Heavenly Earth Scripture could achieve. However, it required a solid foundation in internal kung fu. Prince Jing, who had not yet reached twenty years old, possessing the power equivalent to sixty years was already astonishing, let alone mastering the all-encompassing aspect of the Heavenly Earth Scripture. Although still at a basic level, it was enough to cause awe!
"Be careful!" Rong Jing glanced at the two of them and reminded them in a gentle tone. As he spoke, the white and black chess pieces surrounding him suddenly broke out of a small opening, and his body flashed out through this gap powered by true energy. After he left, he lightly flicked his sleeves. Although it looked light, a powerful pressure poured onto the two rings of light, causing them to quickly smash towards Master Pushan and the old Taoist under the force of his strength.
Master Pushan and the old Taoist were startled. Even though their combined four centuries of cultivation had been somewhat restrained by each other and used as leverage by Rong Jing, they still only possessed two centuries' worth of power. Despite this, they clearly could not handle Rong Jing's one century of power. They ceased fighting and because the overwhelming force came too suddenly, they couldn't evade in time, so they had to use their protective true energy to resist together.
There was a thunderous sound as the temple room collapsed under the pressure!
Yun Qianyue felt her heart stop at this moment. She looked at the temple room that had been flattened in front of her eyes, with bricks and tiles all shattered, beams and arches all broken, and even the whole Lingtai Temple seemed to shake. Her gaze focused into a single line; under the dark night sky, she could no longer distinguish black from white.
"Senior Uncle Pushan!" The Venerable Ciyun and several elders paled and stood rooted in place.
"Young Master!" Xiang Ge appeared from the darkness with a pale face looking at the collapsed temple room.
Just as they shouted, two people suddenly broke out of the ground under the ruins. After rolling twice to steady themselves, one wore Taoist robes while the other had monk's robes on; both were covered in dirt and though their faces couldn't be seen clearly, everyone knew that they must be Master Pushan and the old Taoist. Their hands which had been clinging together separated.
"Young Master Jing! How are you" As soon as Master Pushan was steady on his feet, he looked urgently at the collapsed temple room.
"Smelly brat! I didn't expect you to actually have some skill! Are you dead" The old Taoist also turned to look at the collapsed temple room.
"Young Master!" Xiang Ge's face still pale, walked towards the collapsed building.
"Young Master Jing!" Venerable Ciyun and the Lingtai Temple elders rushed after him towards the ruined temple room as well.
As they shouted, no one came out of the ruins and there was no sound from inside.
Yun Qianyue suddenly closed her eyes. As soon as she did, a warm voice sounded behind her: "I'm here!"
Her eyes immediately opened again and she wanted to turn around but found that her body was still stiff and unmoving.
"Young Master" Xiang Ge turned back with surprise.
Venerable Ciyun and the Lingtai Temple elders all turned around together. Seeing Rong Jing unharmed standing behind Yun Qianyue, everyone looked at him with joy. Everyone's gaze had just been fixed on the collapsed temple room; no one knew how Young Master Jing appeared behind them. But it didn't matter as long as he was safe. Everyone collectively sighed in relief.
"Indeed worthy of being Young Master Jing! I admire you!" Pusahn Master praised Rong Jing, noting that his moon-white brocade robe hadn’t even been stained with a speck of dust; clearly, he had left before the temple room collapsed.
"Your skills are still pretty mediocre!" The old Taoist snorted.
"Old Daoist! Is this what you call mediocre You nearly buried us alive! Why didn’t you bury yourself" Master Pushan glared at Old Daoist.
"A little broken temple room could actually bury me, old Daoist That’s funny!" The old Taoist wiped the dirt off his face and looked at Rong Jing. "You still have some talent. I’ll agree to help this young lady with her Phoenix Calamity."
"Many thanks, Master." Rong Jing replied calmly.
"No need to thank me; you earned it yourself!" The old Taoist waved his hand and walked towards Yun Qianyue. In a few steps, he was in front of her, took a closer look at her, then suddenly reached out to unblock the acupoint.
Yun Qianyue stood motionless, as if she had not heard anything.
"What Little miss doesn't want to解除Phoenix Calamity" The Taoist looked askance at Yun Qianyue.
Yun Qianyue remained still and did not respond.
"Brat! It seems you've wasted your efforts! This little miss no longer cares about you, and won't解除the calamity!" The Taoist looked at Rong Jing and raised an eyebrow at him.
Rong Jing stood behind Yun Qianyue without moving forward. Looking at her back figure with a calm expression, he also did not respond.
"Miss Yun! Although this monk has the Supreme Sutra, as the dead old Taoist said, while the Shaolin's Supreme Sutra can解除Phoenix Calamity, it forcibly breaks through calamity seals. A slight mistake could harm your body. Now that this dead old Taoist knows how to破解Phoenix Calamity without damaging your body’s foundation, if you don't解除it today, there won't be tomorrow! This monk hasn’t seen the trace of this old Taoist in twenty years; if you don't解除it now, in this vast world, once he leaves, it will be impossible for you to find him again." Master Pushan stepped forward and said to Yun Qianyue.
"Alright!" Yun Qianyue suddenly spoke up with a calm voice devoid of any emotion. After speaking, she sat cross-legged on the ground.
"Uncle Ancestor, Taoist, please move to the front meditation room; this place is unsuitable for解除the seal." Master Ciyun walked over and looked at Yun Qianyue, suggesting to the old Taoist and Master Pushan.
"It's still the Dog Days of Summer now; a little coolness means nothing! If this little miss can't even withstand a bit of cold air, how will she handle my subsequent actions" The Taoist sat cross-legged opposite Yun Qianyue as he spoke. He said to Pushan: "Bald monk, assist me from behind. I've just lost half my strength and it might not be enough!"
"Alright!" Master Pushan sat cross-legged behind the old Taoist.
"Tell you now, don’t take this opportunity to attack me!" The Taoist glanced back at Master Pushan.
"You dead old Taoist, if I wanted to kill you decades ago, there were plenty of opportunities. Back then, you were hugging a wine jar and drunk out cold; had I not dragged you back, you would have frozen to death in the snow. So where did that leave your current lively self to challenge me" Master Pushan rebuked.
"Decades-old grievances, you don't blush when talking about them!" The Taoist snorted through his nose.
"I won’t argue with you; let's hurry up and begin!" Master Pushan no longer paid attention to the old Taoist but said to Rong Jing behind Yun Qianyue: "Please, Young Prince Rong, assist in protecting her."
"Master, rest assured!" Rong Jing spoke warmly.
"Ciyun, have everyone retreat! Why are so many people standing here" Master Pushan seemed to only now notice all the monks of Lingtai Temple gathered outside Dharma Hall and frowned. He instructed Ciyun Abbot.
"Yes, Uncle Ancestor!" Ciyun Abbot whispered a command to an elder beside him who immediately walked out.
"Seventh Prince, your internal organs were injured by the shock; sit down and adjust your breath now!" Master Pushan looked at Ye Tianyi standing aside and slowly spoke up.
"I'm fine," Ye Tianyi shook his head. He had blood on his mouth but no longer dripping from his chest; he stood still, unblinking as he stared at Yun Qianyue.
Master Pushan sighed in his heart. The Taoist snorted and suddenly started without warning. His hands gathered inner strength with two beams of ice-blue light converging on the tips of his index fingers, forming a small blue circle. He aimed at Yun Qianyue; one beam targeting her Baihui point while another targeted the center of her brow.
Yun Qianyue suddenly closed her eyes and felt two powerful forces instantly penetrating through these points into the depths of her mind, swiftly occupying both sides in her brain. Inside, they circled for a couple of rounds before simultaneously heading towards the obstruction within her brain. Very soon, they reached that spot; left and right formed a crescent chain pulling on the blockage.
Yun Qianyue's head suddenly began to ache sharply as if a saw was cutting through her mind. All her sensations and thoughts concentrated in this one point, causing a kind of pain where the soul seemed to leave the body. Yet although her brain hurt, the pain didn't penetrate into her heart; she felt wooden inside, like a thick wall blocking off any connection between her heart and mind.
At this moment, logically speaking, this was the most painful thing she had ever experienced in both past and present lives. But to her, this pain seemed so light because it didn’t reach her heart. Without reaching her heart, she felt no pain at all.
After what seemed like ages, the old Taoist suddenly roared: "Bald monk, assist me!
"Good!" Senior Master Puxian responded and struck behind the old Taoist, transferring true energy into his body.
The two of them obviously were familiar with each other's martial arts, understanding each other deeply. They didn't need to adapt; they quickly merged their strengths together.
Yun Qianyue only felt that the two strands of power in her mind, which had previously loosened up, suddenly doubled within an instant. Like forming two large light circles in her brain, these two large light circles combined into one in the blink of an eye, like a giant axe slashing down. She seemed to hear a "boom" sound in her head, like fireworks exploding, countless images surged out like floodwaters, countless faces, familiar and unfamiliar, children and adults, countless events, fragments, and scenes...
Those were memories that had been sealed off for over ten years! They burst forth, almost overwhelming her.
Countless fragments flowed by like water; in her mind, it was as if a long river had opened up. The river she had laid out, participated in, and constructed gradually lengthened and extended...
Among them was a woman with stunning beauty who vaguely resembled her. She sat on a rattan chair by the window of Yun Manor's Qianyue Pavilion, holding a ball of quilting in her arms, from which a little head peeked out, seemingly that of an exquisitely crafted little girl. Soon, the little girl grew bigger and was wrapped in a thinner blanket instead. Then, suddenly, she wore a purple coat, seemed to be more than one year old, sitting obediently in the woman's arms, then seemed to have grown another year, peeling grapes for the woman, who watched her with smiling eyes, warm and affectionate. After that, the woman lay pale on the bed; the little girl stood by the bedside, tightly pursing her lips as she looked at the woman. Then outside Yun Manor's main gate, everyone wore mourning attire to send a coffin out of the residence; the little girl walked beside the coffin, paper money falling from the sky onto the coffin and hitting her body, her young face showing an inappropriately sorrowful expression...
Among them were two small boys. One wore white brocade robes, with delicate features that resembled a fairy or a divine child; mature for his age. Another wore pale blue brocade robes, vaguely resembling the younger Seven of old, with handsome and intelligent looks, noble even at a young age.
When she was five years old, on Emperor Taizu's 45th birthday celebration, she pushed the little boy in white brocade robes into the lake. After rescuing him from drowning, he lost his breath; she performed artificial respiration for him. The same year, a child wearing pale blue brocade robes moved next door to her family and every night when bored, she would find him on the wall watching stars and listening to stories. Sometimes an entire night passed in the blink of an eye, and the little boy fell asleep during his early morning class from exhaustion; he complained to her about being beaten by his master but still lay with her on the wall watching stars and listening to stories the next day.
The same year, a boy wearing white brocade robes won at the literary and martial arts conference at just eight years old, earning him a title as the first extraordinary talent of the Heavenly Saint, though she didn't see him very happy about it...
The same year, Prince Rongwang died from toxic miasma en route; Princess Consort Rong committed suicide by hanging to follow her husband in death. The little boy who loved wearing white brocade robes lost both parents overnight; she went to comfort him and ended up hugging his arm as a pillow for the whole night...
The same year, she personally witnessed an bloody massacre where the entire Wenbo Marquis Manor was killed off; she secretly saved a little boy from the carnage, afraid of exposing herself, she told no one and disguised him alone to be sent into Heavenly Snow Mountain...
The same year, she watched as the little boy in white brocade robes suffered poisoning and assassination attempts; under her grandfather's name, she gave him a Great Return Pill. Since then, the little boy never left the residence... The same year, she began following behind a little boy who loved wearing yellow robes, not backing down despite his cold glances...
The same year...
At ten years old, the pale blue-brocade-robed boy had already grown into a youth of extraordinary grace and beauty...
At ten years old, the white brocade-clad boy had also grown into an adolescent as poetic and picturesque as a painting or verse...
"Mission accomplished!" The old Taoist suddenly shouted in joy and withdrew his hand.
Senior Master Puxian slowly retracted his hands too. His elderly voice couldn't hide his joy, "Congratulations to Miss Qianyue for overcoming the Phoenix Tribulation."
Finally regained her memory! I know everyone has been eagerly waiting! O(n_n)o Haha!
The moon is about to start becoming powerful, looking forward to it~ (⊙_⊙)
